Before playing any match in the Starcraft 2 as Terrain, we must take into account the 3 things that include the map, the size of map and our ranking compared with our opponent. After completing 6 Hellions and 4 Mauraders, we can move to harassing mode if our opponent is playing for an early expansion and the Hellions are effective to counter their speed. The more basic units are required against Immortals including Stimmed Mauaraders and Marines as they are cheaper. Vikings and Siege Tanks are the most effective against an army of Colossus. While playing Terrain versus Terrain, we have two options. We can make the same or more number of units which our opponent is making or we can upgrade or try to use counters strategically. I've used these ways and observed many different results. I usually try to counter the units of my opponents. If he goes Bionic, I counter him with Tanks and Hellions. When he uses Hellions and Tanks, I counter him with Banshees and Vikings.
